About the Artist
Hello, Welcome to my Starving Artist, Rent Raising, still under construction, Website.
During a recent visit to Mexico I was introduced, by video, to Ms. Lila Lewis Irving. Ms. Irving, a successful abstract artist with an extensive international reputation and clientele, was standing next to a 6’ x 6’ canvas laying loosely on the floor. Scattered about were small buckets of color, paint encrusted brushes, an old mop, a broom and other such implements of her creativity. As I watched, the artist picked up a bucket of paint and dumped a splash of its contents onto the canvas. Taking a hold of the mop she proceeded to spread the paint around the canvas with what seemed to be random swabs and swirls. Soon, another bucket of color was poured, swirled and twirled atop and into the previous color and then another bucket joined in this carnival of colors. As I watched, a spacial and color balance began to emerge from such a chaotic beginning and, with a few more strokes, there it was, a strikingly beautiful painting full of color, movement and intrigue. How did she do it, it didn’t matter. I had found a boundless freedom of expression. There were no rules, no one telling you that your purple trees should be green or to make sure you painted between the lines. I had looked into a place where imagination, courage and the love of expression could break open that restrictive litany of rules most of us are brought up with. I found a place where there are no limits to the possibilities. As she lay aside the tools of her trade I realized that somewhere within the last 30 minutes I too had become an abstract painter.
I hope you enjoy my work up to the point of purchase and beyond. Thank you for your patronage, encouragement and always welcome comments. Your support is treasured.
